Best to rock out to:
Future of the Left: Curses

Best cd without words:
The Field: From Here We Go Sublime

Most Entertaining Music that can be construed as misogynistic:
'Lil Wayne: Da Dought 3

The Album I loved till I saw the band live and realized I didn't 'get' it, and decided i didn't want to:
Of Montreal: Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer

Most listened to album of 2007, though it came out late 2006. Also, at this live show the ratio of men to woman was 1:10, it's apparently very empowering when combined with estrogen.
The Blow: Paper Television

Favorite CD's that to my ear are eerily similar in sound and feeling, despite having 2 separate countries of origin.
The National: Boxer
The Twilight Sad: Fourteen Autumns & Fifteen Winters

Party in an mp3:
Pitchfork Mix #2, by Diplo

What an annoying answer, promoting the idea that theories are something less than fact.

10. Interpol - Our Love to Admire

I think I'm the only one that thought this album was pretty good. I mean, it's Interpol just doing the usual drill but it still works for me. I listened to this more than a lot of other albums this year, so that's why it ended up on the list.

Highlights - "Mammoth", "Rest My Chemistry"

09. Radiohead - In Rainbows

The first few times I listened to this album, I was kind of disappointed. But as time went on, I realized that I really really like the second half of this album. If this was an EP of just the second half it'd be my favorite of the year.

Highlights - "All I Need", "Jigsaw Falling Into Place"

08. Kanye West - Graduation

*TOKEN RAP PICK*

Definitely his most consistent album to date. It's kind of weird but I think that the first single "Stronger" is one of the weakest tracks on the album.

Highlights - "Champion", "Can't Tell Me Nothing"

07. Om - Pilgrimage

I finally listened to these guys this year and boy am I glad I did. Like Dopesmoker minus the guitar but with the bass cranked loud and fuzzy. Almost hypnotic, but never boring.

Highlights - Only 4 songs, just listen to the whole thing.

06. Wolves in the Throne Room - Two Hunters

Black Metal? Shoegaze? Whatever you want to call it, I'm into it. The album kicks off with a beautiful, laid back instrumental similar to Boris's "Farewell" before heading into kickass black metal territory.

Highlights - Again, only 4 songs, listen to it all.

05. The Future of the Left - Curses

Band formed from two-thirds of McLusky (another one of my favorite recent bands), and thankfully they still have the fuzzy downtuned sound that I love.

Highlights - "Plague of Onces", "Suddenly It's A Folk Song"

04. Pig Destroyer - Phantom Limb

Great follow-up to Terrifyer. There's a 4-5 song stretch in the middle where each song has a great headbanging breakdown, and that's basically the reason this album on my list.

Highlights - "Loathsome", "Heathen Temple"

03. The National - Boxer

These guys are one of my favorite bands of recent. Each album tends to have a few memorable lines, and this one is no different. This is the music that I listen to when I'm coming to terms with the fact that I'm getting older.

Highlights - "Mistaken for Strangers", "Squalor Victoria"

02. Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Up until this year I always thought was Spoon was "alright" but never understood the love. Then I heard this album and it finally clicked for me. I think I listened to this album at least once a day for 2 months straight this year.

Highlights - "The Underdog", "You Got Yr Cherry Bomb"

01. Battles - Mirrored

I love John Stanier's drumming, and then throw on top of that the great guitar and keyboard doodling, and it's my album of the year. They're great live too.

Highlights - "Atlas", "Tonto"

I wish my office had an electronic kit like this one. This guy is rad. People tear him apart in the comments, but I think he's pretty damn good. He's got all the right facial expressions anyways.

Blogger Eric said,

correction: this guy is really damn good

Blogger Ryan said,

I don't think he's actually playing that in the video above. At one point he hits the cymbal and I hear no cymbal, and vice versa. Funny though.

Blogger Eric said,

You're right, we're hearing Suffocation instead of his drumming. I thought maybe the guitar solo would have tipped you off to that ;)

Ha! Paul, you know by now politicians never really answer questions.

Blogger Paul said,

Dan, DAN.... c'mon. You should know first hand, literally, that he's the real deal. he's here to change things. To be blacker, taller, a baller, a shot-caller, and be less related-to-someone-in-politics than anyone before.

He's obama... and he's gonna save america. and he's gonna answer your questions.
